Villa Thiene, Valmarana

Piazza IV Novembre, 2 - 36050 - Quinto Vicentino (VI)

Construction: 1545
Architect: Andrea Palladio
Environmental context: Urban
In 1497, Quinto, James Thiene, son of Mark, made his will in the main house and ordered to be buried in the cemetery of St. George. So there is already a family and the Lord resides there for long periods of the year. The presence of a man in this land is destined to become even more and more in the following centuries. The Thiene, from this moment on, more and more will tie their name to the history of architecture of Palladio and the Veneto.
Excellencies the context: The Church, dedicated to St. George, was rebuilt several times, that exists today was started in 1741. In places Quintarello find Villa Tacchi-Fagan, of which little is given to us to know about the construction of the lack of sources. Presumably built in 1700, stands at the center of a large park of 4 hectares. In 1870 it was bought by Count Carlo Of Heels from whom it took its current name. Noteworthy is the large park designed by the architect Giorgio Massari (eighteenth century) with mature trees and enriched with a small fish pond which is the evocative setting of the architecture. The oldest is the Villa De Tacchi Franco-called "Ca Prisons", the structure of which incorporates a core that probably dates back to the lords of Lanzè. Remember, also, the presence on the territory of several water mills, the mill Sandini, the Mill De De Tacchi of the eighteen century in Valproto, the mill Farina in Lanzè still working. Also interesting is the bridge over the river Thesis, built in 1885, restored and enlarged later (1980). Excellencies of the villa: Despite appearances the building still exists is only a small part of a much larger complex which has stopped at an early stage of development and that we can get an idea from a drawing by Palladio, now housed in England. In 1998, as a result of careful restoration, the villa has been restored to its original splendor by recovering the mezzanine floor and the attic where you can see the ribs of the two times. The villa is home of the municipal offices and hosts cultural events.
