Villa Carlotti (Municipio)

Piazza Roma, 6 - 37013 Caprino Veronese (VR)

Construction: 1600-1900
Environmental context: Urban
Located in the heart of the montebaldino capital, is since 1952 the seat of the municipal administration, after having been owned by Carlotti and in the second half of the sixteenth century of Vimercati. Time and human needs had deprived it of the park and garden, occupying part of the area with the construction of foreign housing units that were demolished in 1959: among other things, there was a beautiful tower, which is considered a symbol of Caprino. The presence of the Villa Carlotti is known from 1632 until 1920. While in the town center, the Palace looks like a space "secluded", that is with a certain degree of autonomy. After all it can be noted historically, depending on the time, the combination of work-related factors that oversaw the villa with the representative bodies of the wealth and nobility: it was in fact the first agricultural settlement and then fifteenth century home country of a family who was attracted to the values of the Venetian nobility. Even when, in the middle of the '700 system has now reached a definition, while expressing a strong urban primacy, it will assist in the structure of the village and does not claim centrality symmetric background or perspective. The palace, with elegant architectural forms seventeenth century and already preceded by a beautiful gate, imposing grandeur of the façade and the interior painted decoration (restored recently - works fine in 2010). Excellence of the complex is the Council Chamber: on the walls of the living room, painted stucco cornices shaped pretend paintings. The sculptural group is one of the most beautiful and probably the oldest of its kind within the Italian Gothic sculpture, testimony of the cultural life that revolved around the Lordship of the Scala in the first half of the fourteenth century. The villa is home of the municipal offices. The barn houses the tourist information office and hospitality (IAT). In the rooms on the ground floor is the museum of Caprino Veronese.
